That's not my temperature or anything like that. That is the amount of miles I put on my snowmachine yesterday.
This week is our Culture Week and the students participate in a variety of cultural activities. Students have been checking nets, fishing, beading, knitting, sewing, crocheting, skin sewing, designing and making story knives and making wooden spoons.
So far, it hasn't been a bad week. I had some issues with a student on Monday that greatly soured my attitude for about 24 hours. I won't go into it on my blog. Just let it be known that no matter how tough one is or how many years they have been teaching it still kind of hurts when students call you names and throw snow at you.
On Tuesday I got to take the 7-12th graders down to the Johnson River for a bit o' manaaqing. The sun was shining and the weather was beautiful as we loaded up and headed out. Macy was able to sneak into the sled and come with us. Although we didn't catch as many fish as we would have liked we still had a lot of fun.
After I arrived home and dropped the kids off I headed down to Napakiak to meet KC. He is going to be interviewing for a site administrator position in Akula later in the month and wanted to go check out the school. We followed the Johnson River from Napakiak and arrived in Akula after a short stint across the tundra. We stayed and drank a cup of coffee with Kyle and helped Kyle "fix" his new kayak. When I say we helped him "fix" his kayak I mean that KC accidentally pulled a piece off of it when trying to figure out what was wrong with it. What was wrong with it was that that piece needed to be pulled off. It took us a second to realize that KC had actually solved the mystery instead of breaking it.
The ride home seemed to go much faster. KC and I stopped for a bit on the bluffs and talked about life and other interesting subjects. I then headed home.
When I got home I saw my odometer said 101.5 miles...by far the longest I've gone on a snowmobile since Brian, Heidi, Jay and I went snowmobiling in Michigan over Christmas break. It's too bad that the weather will probably get cruddy soon and I'll have to put my machine away. I really enjoyed my ride and was reminded again why I love living here.

That's a lot of mileage for one day, Erin. It was just gorgeous last week! I skied over to Akula a couple of times that week. We have to take advantage of those days, right. Lest we get to this slushy mess & wonder why we didn't.
I missed you on Sat. at the TO. They boys are letting me store my snow-go there. Lee & Sam talked me out of going back alone. It worked out just fine b/c that meant I could spend another night in Bethel. :-)
